We’re proud to announce that Gentian and Mozaic Earth have been selected as winners of the Eramet Biodiversity Open Innovation Challenge!
Launched by global mining leader Eramet, the challenge focuses on one of the most urgent global issues: preserving biodiversity. This year’s edition attracted 100 participants from 28 countries, demonstrating the global urgency around environmental innovation.
Building on the long-term success of its Open Innovation program, Eramet set out to find breakthrough solutions to manage a critical threat to nature — invasive alien species. These non-native plants and animals, introduced largely through human activities, are among the top drivers of biodiversity loss worldwide.
From 29 October 2024 to 14 January 2025, researchers, startups, and SMEs across the world were invited to submit their innovations to detect, monitor, contain, and control invasive species. Winners were offered the opportunity to scale and trial their technology at Eramet sites, and gain visibility across the broader mining industry via the Unearthed network.
Together, Gentian and Mozaic Earth are launching a groundbreaking pilot in Gabon — one of the world’s last great biodiversity havens. Our combined solution harnesses AI, remote sensing, and ground-truthing to detect and manage invasive flora, while offering a comprehensive, data-driven view of ecosystem health. This will directly support regeneration efforts, helping native ecosystems thrive while providing actionable insights for land management.
We are deeply grateful to Eramet for believing in our vision. This partnership is not only an exciting opportunity to create real-world impact in Gabon, but also a powerful example of how innovation and collaboration can drive nature-positive outcomes across industries.
