Gentian was proud to support the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the development of the State of Gardening Report 2025, which was launched in the British Parliament on October 30th with Zoe Franklin MP. The landmark report explores how gardens and green spaces across the UK shape the health of our people, planet, and communities.
Drawing on Gentian’s high-resolution habitat and land cover data, the RHS uncovered striking trends in the changing nature of Britain’s gardens: including the extent to which paving, planting, and biodiversity vary across regions. The findings reveal that nearly half of all UK garden space is now paved over, underscoring the urgent need to value and restore nature even within our private green spaces.
“Gardens play a vital role in the UK’s natural network. They are where many people connect most directly with nature, and together, they form a living system that supports biodiversity, regulates temperature, and contributes to community well-being,” said Marcus Spiegel, CTO of Gentian. “We’re honoured that our data helped the RHS quantify these patterns at national scale.”
Gentian’s AI-driven habitat mapping technology enables organisations to understand the true state of nature across vast areas, from cities to countryside, providing actionable insight into vegetation cover, habitat diversity, and the impacts of land-use change.
The State of Gardening Report highlights the collective potential of individuals, communities, and policymakers to create more resilient, nature-positive places. Gentian’s contribution exemplifies how advanced Earth observation and AI can help make that vision measurable.
